Angling

Tirthan River is one of the few rivers in Himachal that is still clean and unaffected by the slew of Hydropower projects that have mushroomed in the region in the name of development. Himalayan Brown Trout and Rainbow Trout flourish in the waters of the river.

Trout, a fresh water fish, is a native of European waters and was introduced first in the Himalayan Streams of Kashmir in the 1860’s and later from there to the Beas River and its tributaries in the 1930’s. The credit goes to Wazir Bhagwan Dass, former assistant warden of Fisheries, Kullu, that trout were planted by him in the Tirthan and Sainj streams in the forties with an idea to promote angling and other fishing sports.
