Tirthan valley, also called the " The Trout Country" is situated in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh. The Valley takes its name from Tirthan River abounding in trout rich waters. The river originates from the icy–cold springs of Hanskund  (Approx 4600 Mts) in the heart of Great Himalayan National Park and flows through one of the finest forest reserves in the western Himalayas.

Tirthan Valley starts from its source inside Great Himalayan National Park at Tirath and culimates at Aut ( On Chandigarh/ Delhi - Manali National Highway or National Highway 21) where it joins Sainj & Beas Rivers. Tirthan Valley is gateway to the Great Himalayan National Park (GHNP), which is undoubtedly one of the most pristine mountain landscapes in the Western Himalayas and a hidden jewel of unparallel beauty. The valley is accessible in the following ways.

The best way to reach from Delhi/ Chandigarh is to drive by your own car in one day or with a break at Chandigarh/ Bilaspur or at Pinjore/Nalagarh. The route will pass through Delhi - Chandigarh – Ropar - Kiratpur – Swarghat - Bilaspur - Mandi and Aut. ( If you are driving from Delhi and wish to avoid traffic of Ambala – Chandigarh – Ropar – Kiratpur and want to take a scenic countryside route then look out for Prince Hotel around 2 Kms ahead of Shahabad town, turn right after around 300 Mt ahead of Prince Hotel and drive through Saha – Shahzadpur – Ramgarh – Panchkula –Pinjore Gardens –Baddi – Nalagarh - Swarghat. This road meets the other road / NH 21 at Swarghat). If you are driving yourself and approaching the valley from Delhi/ Chandigarh, make sure that you leave the highway before Aut tunnel and follow the road on the right along Tirthan River for 30 Kms till Goshaini. At Larji ( 2 Kms after the right turn) take the road going to Banjar ( road turning right after the bridge) and follow the road going left after Khundan bridge (2 Kms before Banjar town).
